A year goes by
by cyberdyne systems 101 inwow i've just realised that its been just over a year that i've been here, how time flies.

i feel much further away from the jw mindset than i was a year ago.

Funny about this board!
by 5thGeneration ini think it's hilarious that when you post facts there is still always someone arguing it.. makes you want to stop bothering if people don't want to learn.. but then again my family has only been in the truth for 100 years so what would i know?.

My point again is that I could receive, read and have a copy of a WT letter about something and someone will still say I'm wrong
yeah it is funny how that happens, I agree (oh thats the end of this discussion then )

Although your argument with your wife is a fact to you, we on the board have no proof, and can therefore do one of two things, 1) agree with you - end of discussion or 2) disagree and have a big dispute over it

Often it comes down to interpretation of the facts and what point of view you look at them, can you perhaps give an example of the sort of thing you mean?

What should I do? (stay or go?)
by Anony-Mouse inas you may (doubtfully) or may not (more likely) know, there's a certain girl at the kh i'm interested in.
very interested in.
the more i talk to her, the more i think she likes me back (i've always been a good judge of character, knock on wood :p ) .

Although we can give advice based on our own experience - there is nothing like learning it for yourself, as time goes by things will change and this may never be an issue for you, or perhaps years later you'll look back and wished you'd have done things differently, who knows, this is all part and parcel of life. I remember the feelings I had for a non JW girl, when I was your age and its was very powerful, in the end I gave up on it at the time because I felt it was wrong in terms of being a witness. Now i can look back and think any number of reasons I could have not been with this girl or maybe i could have who knows. The fact is we all change as we get older, its the growing together that is tricky.

"This Generation"
by Jeffro ini know the witnesses changed their 'generation' definition in 1995 to get away from being tied down to the literal generation of people who saw 1914.. but applying their definition of the word to matthew 24:34 makes the verse meaningless, regardless of whether the original text grammatically allows for their interpretation.
there is no point in saying "this generation will by no means pass away" if 'generation' merely refers to an attitude of people which may remain the same for any ongoing period of time.. there is simply no point in saying it unless it was intended to refer specifically to a literal generation of people who were alive at the time.
of course, there is no validity to their 1914 doctrine anyway, but nevertheless, they are inextricably stuck with it..

The whole thing was nonsense anyway. As the story, that is referred too, was Jesus telling "those people" and not this modern generation, that they themselves would be alive when Jerusalem fell. Anything beyond that, is just more Bible manipulation.
Unfortunately unless you say it refers to this modern generation, it no longer has any meaning for your audience, and therefore you cannot control them by you interpretation. Sadly the JW's along with all religions, are able to convince its audience that it does have meaning now and they are the only ones to explain it. CS 101

Wow i've just realised that its been just over a year that i've been here, how time flies. Well i've had many ups and downs in life over that time, found new friends, learned a few important lessons and so on. I feel much further away from the JW mindset than I was a year ago. I still have some anger towards it all, but can get on with my life without too much impedance.
Anyway I just want to thank everyone on the board for your contributions that have helped both me and others, keep it up!

Tonight's service meeting
by sspo inwhat a load of crap- 10 min.
asking for more contributions in order to build more kh and reminded everyone not only to give cash but don't forget about leaving something for them in your will.. 25 min.
on the proper use of blood which is also a joke.. the km mentioned you cannot take the four components of blood individually in your body but every component was broken into smaller fractions which is up to you to make a decision to accept or reject.. the common jw does not know their left from their right in making decisions about the dozens of fractions of blood but they will obey blindly and not ask a question because that would be considered apostasy.. .

Thanks for reminding me why I left! As if any of that has to do with worship, its all about following the WTS. The further away I come from the JW mindset, the more absurd it all seems.

Watchtower logo on side of kingdom hall
by cyberdyne systems 101 inmy old kingdom hall has the watchtower logo built into the brick work on the side that faces the road - to me for a hall that is supposed to be dedicated to god, its a bit wrong to have a corporation logo on the side of it.
maybe its there to show they and not the congregation own it???

Well i'm glad this topic raised so much interest! Its reminded me that my old assembly hall also had a watchtower built on top of it, i'm amazed i've never thought of the connection between condemning respect for the flag or national anthem and symbols, and yet the WTS was doing it right under our noses! More double talk from the borg.

Society laying the groundwork for "new light"?
by sir82 inin the january 1 2007 wt, there is the following quote in one of the articles regarding the "first resurrection" (there are a few other posts on that article already):.
it seems that resurrected ones of the 24 elders group may be involved in communicating of divine truths today.. this may be the most significant sentence in the article (haven't read it in its entirety yet).
i don't recall seeing anything like it in print before.. seems to be laying the groundwork for a "flash of new light", to be exposed probably whenever the last of the 3 old-timers hanging on (barr, barber, jaracz) drop off:.

And how exactly do they communicate these divine truths??? And why is it that the annointed here on earth cant hear them properly!
